Addiction explains everything and excuses nothing

Everyday we wake up and face ourselves and everyday we find a way to get through it, avoid it, deny it, whatever it is, that thing that we struggle with, that we give our power to, and it holds us back, keeps us stuck in a place where we hate to be. It stops us from being the best version of ourselves that we want to be, that we know we could be but somehow never are.

Whatever it is, we fall into the same traps day after day, like an endless loop, here it comes, same sh!t, different day, right?

But maybe it can be different. Maybe you could be different.

Dare you even try?

How about instead of worrying about all the other stuff, thinking about the not doing and then hating yourself for doing. Holding at bay all the stuff you think you need to deal with, the stuff you have to get over, the stuff you have to remember to forget, to push it all away, deny it, avoid it, repress it.

How about instead of expending all that energy on the same old sh!t, instead we choose, just for today, to be that best version of ourselves, living the life we always wanted to live?

Just for today, an experiment to see if it feels as good as we think it will. I think it would be amazing, do you?

Just for today, eat healthy food, say no to crap. Just for today, don’t even see the other stuff, go straight past it.

Same with slot machines or endless scrolling online or netflix binges or the cigarettes, or whatever you use. Just for today we won’t see it.

Instead, just for today, simply as an experiment, an exercise in curiosity, to see what it’s like, we’ll be that best ever version of ourselves.

Today, we’ll choose ourselves first. We’ll do the things we always promised ourselves we would do, we’ll step up and be everything we always knew we could be, we always felt it inside, that yearning to be free and kind, and smart, and compassionate and sincere and disciplined and diligent and inspired and inclusive and learning and sharing and caring.

Just one day.

You could do that, couldn’t you?

Or just one hour. Do it for one hour, and if it feels amazing, if you are just as amazing as you always knew you were, as I know you to be, as amazing as you could be if you allowed yourself to be, if you feel that good about you and life, then what?

Another hour?

Another day?

Why not? Hell, yes! I want that. Do you?

It’s just another experiment, another exercise in curiosity – how long will it feel good?

I’ve a feeling, an intuition, a knowing that it will always feel good when we choose to be our best selves, when we deny the self gratification of easy pleasures that always lead to long term pain.

Could it be that easy? To choose to be that best version of ourselves and simply step into it?

Its that simple but maybe not always easy. We already know that. We’ve tried before. Many times. But this time, let’s be done with trying and do it.

And you choose, every day to live as the best version of yourself, doing the things that make you feel proud, that help you like yourself more and more, and so you keep doing so every day.

Imagine how life changes, one day at a time. Suddenly, one day you’ll realise that you are being that person, living that big beautiful life you created one day at a time, you are the person you always wanted to be. You made it happen, One day at a time. One step after another.

Because you have to. Because staying where you are, being the unhappy, unsatisfied, self destructive, self sabotaging version of you isn’t an option anymore. You want more, you want better, you want to be more, you want to do better.

Choose it. Today.

Choose it. Tomorrow.

Choose yourself. Every day. One day at a time.

And there you are. Being fully you, the best of all of you.

And you always were.
