Take the medicine, whatever it is, to make you feel better

Sometimes you have to listen to things you don’t want to hear.

Listening to loud music on headphones will make you deaf. I never wanted to hear that when I was a teenager, but luckily I didn’t use headphones or I maybe would have damaged my hearing. As it is, I do need to turn the volume up on things I now listen to because sometimes it’s hard for me to hear what people are saying.

If you keep making faces, your face will stick that way and never change. Yes, I do have a marvelous resting bitch face and some deep grooves between my eyes, not from scowling but from squinting due to my shortsightedness. My mother always used to say my face would stick like that if the wind changed. What the wind had to do with it, I still don’t know.

Eat your greens. Kinda obvious, necessary for good health. Luckily, I always did like to eat my vegetables.

Meditate daily. Ahh, this one. This was what was I was avoiding. And so it shows up here. I need to do this every day. Its a must for me to stay on an even keel and not let depression and anxiety swamp me. And yet, when I feel those twin terrors creeping close, meditation is the last thing I want to do. I want to focus on my worries, exacerbate my fears and contemplate a future where everything goes wrong.

That’s where I’m at today. Actively pushing away from the one activity that will help me get through the difficult times I’m facing right now.

We all do it, I think? Especially if you’re prone to depression and anxiety. The pathway, the downward spiral is so easy to fall into.

That’s why we always need to focus on our daily practice. What keeps you grounded, secure, on an even keel?

For me, its journaling and meditation. And when those two things become difficult, I know I’m not helping myself.

I need to stop whatever I’m doing and just go meditate.

So, I’m going to break off here while I just go and do that. And we’ll see how I feel and how I write once that’s done.

Meditation is like showering when you’ve been sweaty and dirty for hours. Your mind gets clean, fresh and you’re able to see clearly what’s going on.

I stop looking at the past seeing all my mistakes and hard times and projecting them onto this moment and any choices I need to make. I stop looking into the future and catastrophising, seeing everything go to sh!t.

Looking after your mind and body and spiritual health is a daily practice and it’s a must do. Whether you feel like it or not. Especially when you don’t feel like it.

Because you’re not always going to feel like taking care of yourself. Just like you don’t always feel like getting up and going to work, or eating right or exercising.

But there are things we must do. Not for a short term feel good rush but for our long term, deep in our bones, heart and soul good.

Your daily practice of RWID, meditation and whatever else you add to the list are non-negotiable.

I’ve written about non-negotiables before. They are the things you don’t argue with yourself about doing.

In fact, you choose to make these things part of your identity. I meditate every day. I walk Amelia twice a day. I write in my journal every day. I share with you every day. These are my non-negotiables.

And the great thing about getting on with it and doing them even when I don’t feel like it is that, once done, I feel better. I’m glad I made myself do it. And every day I get better and better at making them part of my routine, part of my identity and everyday, I get better results for my efforts.

Even today, when I was doing my best to avoid it, meditation showed up in my writing; both in my journal and here in this post. That’s why I stopped and went and did it, because my mind was clamouring out for it.

I believe in the power of my mind to make my life better. I believe my mind can change my life, for better or worse.

All it takes is the focus of my attention to shift.

That’s why when I start to feel anxiety and depression creeping in, it’s even more important to commit to my non-negotiables and stick with my mental, emotional and spiritual health practices.

This is what creates the space for me to function and raise my energy, my vibration, my expectation of things working our perfectly. No matter what.

So even in the midst of personal upheaval, I take the time out to meditate, to write in my journal, to walk Amelia and to share my post with you. And I get on with my day and my work in a way better mood than I would have if I hadn’t done the mindset work.

Before this post, I was considering giving up, going back to corporate. No-one wanted to hear what I had to say, who did I think I was. I’m not that good at this at all. After meditation, I’m happy to write knowing that if just one person reads this and gains some help for themselves, it’s worth it.

And I recognise that whilst I may not be the best hypnotherapist in the world, I’m the right one for my clients. They know they want to work with me and get great results from doing so. I become so much more realistic after meditation instead of seeing the world only in the bleakest of terms.

Have a mantra that helps you focus on the good in your life, use it every day, throughout the day.

Meditate.

Focus your mind on what you want to feel.

Spend time in nature and with beings you love.

And know, trust, believe that life is on your side and everything always works out for the best, no matter what.

And if you are having a tough day and need some help, some support, just for someone to hear you,  reach out. Talk to someone, leave a voice clip on WhatsApp, connect with nature and with people. If you need to, talk to the Samaritans or another charitable organisation. Message or email me.

Most of all, know you are worthy, you are loved, and you are enough. You are exactly where you need to be and you have everything you need to create the life you want to live. If you can see it inside of you, it’s yours. Focus on the good.

Love,

Cynthia xx
