The twin pillars of unhappiness, Resistance and Avoidance

I write about how to change our lives by changing our thinking and we can do that but we also have to be aware of the boobytraps planted by our subcosncious that can stop us moving forward in the direction of the life we want.

And those booby traps are usually based in Resistance and Avoidance, which are both behavioural manifestations of fear.

Because we fear change, that’s biologically hardwired into us and so we find ways to not do the things we want to do.

We want to be slim and healthy and go to the grocery store and buy healthy whole natural food and full the fridge with it all and then we also buy biscuits, bread and crap and we eat all that first and we order take aways before we eat the healthy stuff and in fact we end up just tossing it all in the bin.

Our minds are capable of holding two contrasting thoughts at the same time, in fact there’s hundreds of thought running around our mind at any one time but consciously we’ll be aware of a handful and the ones we give our most attention to will be the one concerning what we want and the opposite impulse.

We could call it duality, theologians often talk about the duality of human nature which can mean the substance of the body and the invisible realm of consciousness. But for me, human nature also encompasses the duality of conflicting thoughts,

There’s an old Native American parable, Cherokee tribe to be precise, about an elder talking to a youth about the two wolves who live inside and the fight within and when the listener asks which one will win the battle, the elder replies the one you feed.

One day an old Cherokee man sits down with his grandson to teach him about life.

A fight is going on inside of me,” he says to the boy. “It’s a terrible fight between two wolves. One is evil – he is full of rage, jealousy, arrogance, greed, sorrow, regret, lies, laziness, and self-pity.”He continues, “The other is good – he is filled with love, joy, peace, generosity, truth, empathy, courage, humility, and faith. This same fight is going on inside the hearts of everyone, including you.”

The grandson thinks about this for a few minutes, and then asks his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replies, “The one you feed.”

Its a similar case in your mind, you’ll always have two opposing thoughts whether its anger or love, to eat right or eat crap, to gamble your wages or pay your bills, to honour and care for your body or abuse it with your substance/practice of choice.

This is where RWID is invaluable, to enable you to think more about what you want, to create a pathway that takes you there more often rather than its opposite.

But what about the booby traps? Where do Resistance and Avoidance come in?

When you’re doing all the right things and yet you’re still not moving forward, that’s where you’ll find resistance and avoidance. Because you’re not doing all you can, there’s something you’re resisting, you’re avoiding taking an action that will move you.

When that’s happening, when you become aware that you’re stuck again, maybe in a better place than before but you’re still not where you want to be, still not being that best version of you as much as you could be?

You can be sure one of fear’s top minions is doing its dirty work on you.

What can you do?

Well the first thing is awareness, become aware that you’re stuck, just as happened to me yesterday. Read about that here.

And once you’re aware, drop all resistance and avoidance. You know what the next right thing is for you to do, of course you do, its the thing you’re resisting and avoiding. Just go do it. No drama, no angst. Just do it.

Don’t overthink it.

Don’t try to analyse whether its a good idea or the right time.

Don’t ask other people’s opinion of what you should do.

You have the next right step, your intuition, your Higher Self, your soul, your innate inner wisdom has shown it to you and you’re resisting it, you’re avoiding taking action. The only thing you can do in that moment is surrender to the thing and do it.

No looking left or right, up or down. No asking for permission, or validation.

This step is yours.

Move forward.

Screw up your courage and do it.

That’s all you have to do right now.

Take that one step.

The one after that will take care of itself.

Just do the thing.

And that’s how you crush Resistance and Avoidance.

By doing the thing you”ve been guided to.

And you already know what it is.

So please, for the love of God, the Universe, Source, the Divine Creator and the satisfaction of your own soul – do it now!

Say yes to yourself.

And then, do the next thing, because its always one step at a time. Moving forward. Always. Upwards. Of course.

Love,

Cynthia xx

PS. If you’ve been stuck, feeling like you’ve been living the same day over and over and its no fun anymore, if you’ve fought weight issues, depression, anxiety, addiction, or simply a feeling of general dissatisfaction with how your life is unfolding for you, and you feel like you’ve tried everything and nothing has worked. It’s natural to feel that a solution is almost impossible.

That’s part of what keeps the problem in place.

But real lasting change is possible.

Think how it would feel achieving your goals with far less resistance,  whether it’s dropping excess weight, gaining freedom from depression and anxiety, being a rockstar in your business or career, or excelling in your personal relationships. You can do it, you have no fears about staying stuck and not moving forward anymore.

See yourself fully present and grounded, living with total fulfillment and satisfaction with how life is unfolding for you, with no regrets, as you carve your own path forward, moving forward always forward, no looking back .
