What is deciding how life is for you?

Every single second your brain processes over 11 million bits of information – every second. Did you know that? Were you aware of it?

No, because our conscious mind can only handle about 50 bits of information.

Huge discrepancy in performace, right?

So how does your brain decide what gets to reach your conscious mind and which of the other 11 million bits get quietly filed away under ‘Not today or even EVER?’

How is your day to day experience decided?

Your brain is a bit like a social media algorithm – what shows up in your awareness is what you tell yourself is true (your beliefs) and what you tell yourself is important (your conditioning). Just like on Facebook, if you like a few pages with certain types of content the algorithm will bring you more and more of the same kinda thing.

Our brains love being right, so much so it will reject information that contradicts what you hold as true, even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary – I’m looking at the flat earthers here!

But we see it everywhere with almost every social subject now – Biden, Trump, Corona, Masks, Vaccines. The world is regressing to a binary either or existence which negates our human reality of possibly believing some of everything and a little bit of both and all opinions.

Our brains operate similarly, we see what has been activated in our minds as either good – we believe in it or bad – no we don’t. There’s no cross over or possibility of intersection.

In fact our brains love being right so much that it is always looking for evidence to prove what it ‘knows.’ Which is why you only see what you believe.

Yes, science has proven we only see what we believe to be in the world and not what is actually there (or even proven to be real and true.)

So if you believe the world is dangerous place, you will see danger and experience danger and live in fear of danger because that’s what you create for yourself.

If you believe you’re not good enough, you will always find evidence to prove that belief too.

That’s why, when you realise life isn’t bringing you what you want that you must start to be intentional in your thoughts and actions. Begin to only read books that offer the potential of possibilities you want to live in, only read the sites that share the values you want to live from. listen to audios and podcasts that focus your thoughts on what you want to bring into your lived experience. Be with people who you want to be like, who live the kind of life you want to live.

Change the story you tell yourself about yourself and your reality.

And the best way to do that is to switch off the non-stop processing autopilot you’ve got running. Because that thing will stop you making progress on the changes you want every time.
