Working with clients the first thing I ask is always, ‘What do you want to happen?’

We all know so well what we don’t want. We don’t want to be fat, or broke, or a smoker, or miserable, or stuck in a dead end job or always fighting with our partner or children, or always feeling overwhelmed, tired, angry and fucking fed up with it all. The list of what we don’t want can seem endless…and on and on the litany of misery goes.

And when people reach out to me as a hypnotherapist, they’ve usually reached the end of their tether and I’m the last resort. They’ve tried everything else.

Which is  a shame really because hypnosis is such a great tool for making your life better all the time. Is there ever a time when you can say nothing could make this moment better? Of course not because things can be amazing and still get better. That’s my favourite way to use hypnosis, making great lives even better.

Hypnosis can make life better no matter what circumstance you’re in. That’s why I love it so much.

Happy already? Hypnosis can make you happier.

Miserable? Hypnosis can help you switch from miserable to less miserable to as happy as you’ll allow yourself to get.

Because, yes, its a great tool but its not a miracle.

It doesn’t work unless you do too.

And its why I never offer one off sessions as an option to work with me. You’ve been thinking how you’ve been thinking for how ever long you’ve taken to create the life you want to change. I can work with you to change it but your thinking doesn’t change overnight, and that’s what we work on most of all, how you can learn to think yourself into a better life.

A good life, a happy, content life comes from a daily practice of cleaning and clearing emotionally, mentally, spiritually as well as physically.

Just as you wash/shower/brush you teeth every morning, so you need a practice to clean and clear your mind and body of the emotional and mental grime and clutter we pick up as we journey through every day of our lives.

And it can be so simple and easy and you don’t have to meditate for 20 minutes or more every day. But time in self reflection is essential, start with a minute of it and build from there. See an earlier post this week about how to create habits that stick.

And just as every day you brush your hair and put on clean clothes to meet the day so you must focus your thoughts and feelings on how you want to be that day. Think about how you want to show up throughout the day and create the necessary energy in your mind and body to do so.

Think about this, when you’re tired and stressed and distracted going through your life, trying to do anything well can seem too much, its too overwhelming to think about how to be happy on top of all the effort you’re already making just being here.

Instead of just going into the day willynilly, imagine starting your day by preparing yourself mentally, emotionally and energetically.

Start by taking a few moments to close your eyes and think of a time when everything feels wonderful to you, a perfect moment in time, a vague memory of childhood long gone or maybe a snatch of a daydream, something that hasn’t happened yet, but you can picture it, feel it clearly.


Feel all the sensations that perfect moment of peace, happiness, joy, adventure brings to you. Imagine yourself bathing in those sensations, like you’re bathing in sunshine. Just for a moment.

And then switch your attention to the day ahead and see yourself do all of your necessary tasks and activities while still bathed in the glow of that perfect moment, the warmth of the sensations still floating on your skin, in your arteries and veins.

And now see yourself move through your day, and everything works out perfectly, as it was always meant to. Every appointment, every meeting, phone call, every journey, every interaction between yourself and the outside world. All the different aspects of your day tied together in a glorious ribbon of joy and beauty that suffuses everything around you.

Take a moment and breathe that in. Feel it in your very bones, in every cell of your being. Accept it as real and relax into another breath and when you’re ready open your eyes.

Just imagine from that state of being how much easier it is to be the person who steps up into being their ideal self.

This person doesn’t overeat or eat crap or smoke or drink too much or gamble or self abuse themselves. This person doesn’t feel hopeless or helpless at their work or in their relationships. This person empowers themselves everyday to be the very best they can and so they go out in the world making it true.

This person can be you. You simply decide today to be that version of you, the one who knows what they want, what they are truly capable of and steps up into being all of it from a place of choosing, of deliberate thought, of creation.

Rather than moving through life like it’s happening to you, like life is against you, now you choose to see, feel and believe that its happening for you.

And so you change and everyday feels like a miracle.
