The single most important thing you can ever do

Love Yourself.

But by fuck do we resist doing it.

All that shite we learned from god knows who from who knows when stops us.

‘I’m too old, I’m too fat, I’m too ugly, too stupid, too lazy, too thick, too much of eveything that’s wrong.’ Who fucking told you that?

It didn’t come from you. It didn’t come your heart.

No. You learned it from people who had learned it from the generation before them and they did the same and so the poisonous trash gets passed on, parents and caregivers damaging the children they love… thoughtlessly, ignorantly. Because its all they know. And they are simply doing what was done to them and every one of them doing their best. Even if their best isn’t worth spit.

You often hear it said that you can’t love anybody else until you first love yourself. That’s BS. People who can’t love themselves give their hearts away so easily, just so they can feel what love is like, doesn’t matter that its  for someone else if not their own self.

The first step in loving yourself is allowing yourself to be seen by another, to be loved by someone else.

They will see everything you judge as wrong, as bad, as somehow lacking, all those parts of you that you learned to cover up and repress. They see them and they love them. They love you.

Find someone you feel safe enough with to show them you. All of you.

Doesn’t have to be a romantic relationship, friendship can go just as deep in our hearts. Find that person and be you with them.

And you’ll find that they don’t think you’re wrong or bad or lacking in anything.

In fact, that person will see how beautiful and brave and strong you are.

Remember that look on their face when you show them who you are and share your truth. That look of compassion, shared humanity. That’s love.

Drink it in. Absorb it. Hold it in your heart…

• as you start to uncover the lies you believed and lived by,
• as you start to discover who you truly are
• as you recover yourself and heal.

Often we can’t see ourselves clearly at all but other people can. Let them guide you to your truth and to being your wholehearted, loved, loving self.

Beak the cycle of thoughtlessness and ignorance. We know better, you know better. Love yourself.

Because its within that your best life lies waiting.
