Because its not about how you think! Let’s just get this one thing straight.

If there’s one thing about psychology, psychiatry and the mental health industry that makes me mad the most – because there are many things that make me mad about this industry that should be a service.

Its this –

Psychiatry, psycho-analysis, psychology – what do all these things have in common?

They are sciences of ‘the mind.’ Sciences that were in the most part created by men, developed by men, and perpetuated by men on the rest of the world.

What are men not very good at?

What do they avoid, deny, distract, disdain?

Apart from women – lol! (not really funny and sadly true)

The answer I’m looking for is, of course, feelings, emotions.

Psychology, psychiatry and the mental health industry is stuck in an old world paradigm based on three limiting assumptions – thanks to Lisa Miller  and ‘The Awakened Mind’ for clarity here

  1. that the brain creates thoughts
  2. that all meaning is interpretation
  3. we can feel better by rearranging our thought.

I mean CBT, the great white hope of the NHS for mental Health is a completely masculine theory and its a bust. Lets just challenge the thoughts that make us unhappy and replace depressing thoughts with ones that tell a different story. Talk about skimming the surface. Who’s scared to go deeper, boys?

What if our brain don’t create thoughts but instead receive them?

What if our brains are not the be all and end all of our conscious thought but instead one part of the process involved in sifting and translating received wisdom and ideas?

What if feeling better is in our hearts first? In our emotions? (it is, of course)

What if our emotions show us the world as it is and we receive that and then choose to feel differently based on received guidance and wisdom?

Feeling better isn’t a matter of creating new thoughts. We’ve all done that and felt no better time and time again. Noticing unhappy thoughts and replacing them with happier ones doesn’t change anything unless the underlying emotion changes.

What if we simply paid attention to what life was showing is and choose to make the best of things as they are and then feeling better choose more in an upward trajectory?

What if we aligned with life, with what is showing up for us and appreciated it so much, even better things started appearing?

We are part of a deep interconnectedness. We all have our own energy field that is part of the Universal energy field.

Believing we are on the right path, that everything is working out perfectly and its all good, we always are being part of the oneness of life. We are living through  and by Higher Consciousness.

And yet, we still have medical personnel, doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists all resisting the idea that there is more to life than what we sense with our limited human sensory equipment and to be ‘fixed’ you need to change your chemistry through pills, through repetitive though processes that just keep you stuck.

I truly want everyone to begin to realise just how big of a miracle they are, how amazing a person, a piece of the Universe. Unique and fabulous and oh so right and perfect.

There is nothing wrong with you except you are disconnected from your Source, your Higher Consciousnesses, your Inner Sense of Divine.

Get back to being you. Heart and soul.

Yeah, I know. Its a big ask in a  culture that mocks spirituality and believing in an unseen divinity. But spirituality is real. You’ve felt it move you before, just as I have.

Shuck your religion, I have no time or space for organised rituals based on power, greed and corruption and abuse.

Instead, find a personal practice of spirituality. for some, its being in the sea, surfing, being at one with the hugeness of the ocean. For others it is in service to their fellow man.

Nature and service are wonderful ways to connect with your Higher Consciousness.

Being still, listening for that voice that dwells deep within. That’s a part of it too.

Yes, I feel a bit hesitant talking about spirituality because I know most people want science and facts but here’s the thing, science and facts, hard science, hard data now support the idea of spirituality and its key to our emotional, physical and spiritual health.

So pray, commune with trees, walk barefoot in the park, feed the ducks. Find peace because in the quiet you find the God within.
