I know, you’re saying to yourself, no-one has good luck all the time. But when you train your thoughts to work for you, even when ‘bad’ things happen, you’re able to turn them around into something good.
And it works for big and small things, and they can be life changing or life enhancing. Because when you are in control of your thoughts, you’re no longer at the mercy of events, other people, anything that occurs outside of you. You can cope with anything.
I’m not saying it will instantly make you a rockstar or a billionaire or put you in an amazing relationship with your soulmate, but it will give you immediate resiliency and make these things more likely if they are truly something you want. And while you get busy bringing your dreams into reality, your thought control makes you happier and more productive. Sounds great, right?
RWID is the tool that gives you control over how you think. I’ve written about it extensively before, many times, and you can read the most comprehensive article about it here.
The power of RWID is in the intensity and duration of thinking you apply to the things you want. Because what you think about, you bring about. As Bob Proctor would say!
I’ve told this story before but it bears repeating because it illustrates the power of RWID perfectly. For several years, I had great difficulty with my neighbours. My next door neighbour was a bully and when I eventually, inevitably stopped lending her my household tools she became nasty and vindictive. She started making anonymous complaints to our local authority about my dogs and noise, all without validity.
As you can imagine, and some of you may have experience of a nasty neighbour, it causes a great deal of stress in your home, where you should feel most safe and at peace. I was already suffering from several health issues that were exacerbated by stress and this additional pressure made me sicker and sicker. My breathing got even more problematic, my asthma worsening, my sinuses inflamed, my stomach constantly irritated.
I got weaker and weaker. But a dear friend offered me the opportunity to stay with her for a week in Scotland and as I hadn’t had a break in ages I grabbed the chance of one. And it was bliss, the peace, the respite for my shattered nerves allowed me the space to think, breathe and find clarity. Because under that stress I’d lost my ability to think, I’d lost the discipline to be able to stay focused and I just couldn’t dream of what I did want, I only knew I wanted the abuse and harassment to stop.
And with the peace and space I was able to think clearly again and I formed a new RWID manta and started thinking it, envisioning it coming into being like my life depended on it and it did.
Once home my neighbour immediately restarted her harassment campaign and complained to my landlord about my dogs, who have never been guilty of nuisance barking.
Of course, immediately my landlord knocked on the door to talk to me about this my heart sank and my stress levels went up. But I pretty quickly switched to thinking my RWID mantra, and I said to myself over and over again, ‘This is good, this is good, this is good.’
I chanted it out loud along with my RWID manta and then I asked myself, ‘How is this good? How does this work out for me?’
And the answer was something I’d had in the back of my mind for years and had come to the forefront during my week in Scotland, the answer of course was to move house. To move far away from those irritating, small minded people and start afresh somewhere new, somewhere nice.
Of course, the answer came with a ready made solution. My brother was looking for a new tenant for his property in England, so I moved across the country, across the Irish Sea. It was the perfect solution to his problems and mine.
On one hand, yes my neighbour’s harassment was not a good thing and certainly if I hadn’t allowed myself the space to think differently I may still be living there, stressed and unhappy. But actually, it was exactly what I needed to nudge me into making a move I’d been wanting to make for a long time.
I’d never done anything about it because staying where we are is usually the easiest option. And because of the stress I had been living under, I hadn’t opened myself to allowing the possibility of a house move, and certainly hadn’t decided on it, come what may.
But when I’d given myself space, had brought my stress level down and allowed myself to dream about what I really wanted, a house move was one of the things I decided I did want to commit to and it went on my RWID list. And so what could have been a disaster turned into a blessing.
And whilst not having such a life changing impact, the other story I want to tell you about is about another thing on my RWID list, obviously a different list from last year’s. And it’s friendships, building connections here in my new home, which has obviously been difficult with Covid19 and the Lockdown.
But I have made friends through Amelia, as on our walks we’re meeting lots of other dogs and their humans and people have been incredibly welcoming and kind and friendly.
A few days ago I realised I hadn’t seen one of our regular walk meets in weeks and I was hoping everything was alright. And of course, I met D today walking Polly, and the little dog is about to have an operation and D was bemoaning how horrible the buster collars that dogs have to wear after an operation are, how uncomfortable and cumbersome. And I was able to offer her Amelia’s fab inflatable, soft and comfortable collar so Polly would have an easier time in recovery.
As I said my current RWID is about building new friendships and being of use. Its not a massive thing but it was lovely to be able to do that for a darling little dog and help her owner out.
One of the things I write in my journal every day when I’m exploring my mindset and reinforcing the beliefs I want to embody is ‘Everything is always working out perfectly for me, no matter what.’ The daily reaffirming of that belief in my mind means that whatever happens, I know like I know my own name, I’m that certain of it and I believe in my bones with complete faith that everything will be okay and it will all work out in my favour and for the good of everyone involved.
That doesn’t mean that I don’t still sometimes get gripped by a blind panic when something ‘goes wrong.’ But it is momentary, and I pretty much instantly reset my thinking to go, ‘Okay, this is good, everything works out perfectly for me, there’s good to be found here.’ And I’m able to relax and think constructively again.
There are several scientific reasons for this. Yes, that’s right, this is not just positive thinking mumbo jumbo, woowoo nonsense. This is science based, research tested and proven stuff!
When we’re stressed, all of our normal behavioural systems go offline, our digestive system gets shut down, our immune system, our reproductive system, basically everything is switched off to allow the fight/flight response our full capacity to evade/eliminate the perceived threat.
This means that our thinking stops and we become purely reactive. OUR THINKING STOPS. This means the ability to creatively, logically, intuitively solve whatever problem we’re facing is gone.
I’ve said this to clients many times – stress makes us act stupid!
And if you’ve almost permanently stressed, you’ve lost most of your ability to get yourself out of whatever mess you’re in.
When you’re able to catch your out of control thinking and switch to a simple life affirming positive mantra that conjures up images that make you feel good, you’re able to bring your thinking brain back on line.
Now you’re able to think, you’ll see the opportunities that you were blind to when you were stressed out, you’ll see methods of solving your problems that you couldn’t grasp in that anxious state, and you may even see possibilities to positively change your life for the better as a result of this so-called ‘problem.’
Having a positive affirmation that relates to the things you want in life is the most powerful tool to keep you thinking working for you.

Cynthia
